The KMZ Turret Finder is a copy of the Zeiss turret
finders made for Contax cameras in the 30's, with the only difference
being that the turret is oriented to the left of the shoe so as not
to block access to the shutter speed dial on the Leica-inspired Zorki
camera bodies. KMZ also made these finders with the turret to the right, a la Contax, to be used with Kiev cameras.
It is a truly useful little
device, replacing as it does, up to 5 seperate viewfinders in the one
unit. The 50mm position offers a viewfinder that is much clearer and
brighter than the built-in viewfinder of most Russian cameras. It also
features paralax correction by means of setting the turret just short
of the click-stop for the chosen focal length. The longer focal lengths
have two paralax correction settings; the 85mm setting is shown below
set at the 2-metre close-focus setting:
I also like the fact that the viewfinder has crosshairs in it, which
assists with maintaining level horizons, especially with shorter
focal length lenses.
