RONDA ARCHIVE

18 September - We are in Ronda, after taking a little regional train through the rugged countryside from Granada. The town is perched atop a giant cliff, with dramatic views in all directions.

This photograph was taken about half-way down the cliff, looking back on the town. The bridge was built in the 18th century, when it linked the two parts of the town for the first time in its history. The building perched on the left hand side is our hotel! We decided to treat ourselves, and are staying in a two-story suite with views across the valley.

The view from our balcony at night. The bridge can be seen to the lower left, with the "old" part of Ronda directly in front of us.

Enjoying a bit of Sangria on one of our two balconies (one upstairs, and one downstairs, of course).

Looking down the bridge, into the gorge below. Let me assure you - it's a very long drop! Taken from the top of the bridge, looking back towards our hotel.

Ronda is considered the home of bull fighting, and apparently people come from all around Spain to see the special form of "pure" bull fighting done here. Frankly, it all looks the same to me, and I doubt the bull sees much difference, either. This is where prosciutto addicts come to get their fix. You can see them slinking off in the early hours of the morning carrying thin little packages after visiting the dispensary here, only to return again the next morning to satisfy their sad addiction.
